Daniele de Rossi is edging closer to the exit door at AS Roma.
Manchester United chief scout Martin Ferguson has made regular checks on De Rossi since the New Year, while Manchester City scout Barry Hunt has also been watching the midfielder.
With just over a year to run on his existing Roma deal, Gazzetta dello Sport says De Rossi is not close to agreeing new terms.
Roma will be reluctant to allow De Rossi to wind down his contract and is prepared to sell.
A deal for less than £14 million could be on for United given De Rossi’s contract situation.
Interestingly, new Roma sports director Walter Sabatini was in Manchester on the weekend.

Sir Alex Ferguson has been linked with Italian midfielder Daniele De Rossi for quite some time and news that the Roma man is no nearer to signing a new deal may well be music to the Man United boss’s ears as he looks to bring in the box to box central midfielder this summer.
27 year old De Rossi is now in his 10th season in the Stadio Olimpico first team and is reportedly unhappy with the manner in which he has been treated by the Serie A side. He has not seen his demands met and after seeing his side fall back from the title race, may now be ready to call time on his Roma career. A decision he will find all the more easy to make if his side misses out on Champions League qualification.
Ferguson has a number of central midfield options but offers a mixture of strength, determination and perhaps most importantly, goals. De Rossi managed 11 last term and given that the likes of Darren Fletcher, Anderson, Michael Carrick and Paul Scholes do not weigh in with much in the way of goals, such a player clearly tempts the Scot.
With only one year left on his current deal the price to land the Rome born battler could well be reduced. De Rossi has little to show in the way of tangible success with just two Coppa Italia triumphs from his decade at the club, a move to Man United could help fulfil ambitions of landing major silverware after a lengthy period at Roma has led to five runners-up spots and seemingly the capital club are no nearer to ending that drought.
